Working with Ecrivus — freelance translators and interpreters
Ecrivus works with a network of 10,000+ self-employed translators and interpreters. No permanent contract and no minimum: you translate in your own language combination and specialist field, at the times that fit your schedule.
Apply
Working in three steps
Between registration and your first assignment there is a short intake with a trial translation. After that, you receive work that matches your specialism.
- 1
Register
Complete the registration form with your language combinations, specialist fields and any sworn or certified status. You tell us which types of work you are available for.
- 2
Trial translation
We get in touch within 5 working days and send a trial translation in your field. This lets us assess your target language, terminology and fit with the type of assignments we place.
- 3
Onboarding
Once approved, we add you to our network and pair you with a dedicated point of contact. You receive assignments that match your specialism and accept whatever fits your schedule.
What we ask
Who we are looking for — translators
We match assignments to specialists with domain knowledge. This is what we expect from translators in our network.
Specialisation
A clear field of expertise: legal, medical, technical, financial or marketing. We place assignments on the basis of domain knowledge, not general translation ability.
Target language at native or near-native level
You translate into your mother tongue or a language you command at an equivalent level. For certified work we look for registration with a recognised professional body such as NRPSI, CIOL or ITI.
CAT-tool experience where relevant
For terminology-intensive assignments we work with Trados, Phrase and memoQ. Experience with one of these tools is an advantage on technical and financial projects, not a hard requirement for every field.
For interpreters too
Who we are looking for — interpreters
Alongside translators, we recruit interpreters on an ongoing basis. When you apply, tell us which settings you are available for.
On-site interpreting
For hearings, appointments with public authorities and business meetings we engage court interpreters, public-service interpreters and business interpreters. We match assignments on language combination and setting, never at random.
Video remote interpreting
For healthcare, legal conversations and corporate meetings we regularly need remote interpreters. You work from home via a platform chosen by the client, in pre-scheduled slots.
Sworn and certified interpreting
For interpreting at court and official institutions we work with interpreters registered with a recognised professional body such as NRPSI. Share your registration details and accreditation date when you apply.
What we offer
Working as a freelancer with Ecrivus
We are a family business from Maastricht with over 20 years of experience and a worldwide network of representatives. For you, that means the following.
Freedom in your schedule
You work as a freelancer with no minimum commitment. You set your own availability and accept or decline assignments without any consequences.
A steady flow of work
With 25,000+ projects since 2006 and requests in over 30 specialist fields, we regularly place assignments in your language combination and specialism. Volume varies by language pair and field, and we are honest about that.
Peers and a dedicated contact
You are part of a network of 10,000+ translators and interpreters. A dedicated project coordinator knows your specialisms and discusses context and terminology with you.
