Working with Ecrivus — freelance translators and interpreters

It varies by language combination and field, and we would rather be honest than over-promise. For common combinations such as German or French into English we place work regularly; for less common languages such as Farsi, Tigrinya or Pashto the work comes in less often, but with little competition within our network. You accept what fits your schedule and decline the rest without any consequences.

We look for a relevant degree or demonstrable experience in a specialist field, and a target language at native or near-native level. For certified or sworn translation we look for registration with a recognised professional body such as NRPSI, CIOL or ITI. After you apply, we send a trial translation in your field to assess target language, terminology and fit with the type of assignments we place.

In three steps. You complete the registration form with your details and specialisms. We get in touch within 5 working days and send a trial translation. Once approved, we add you to our network and pair you with a dedicated project coordinator, after which you receive assignments that match your specialism.

You work as a freelancer and invoice us per assignment. We agree the fee per assignment before you start, so you know in advance what you will receive. As a self-employed professional you are responsible for your own VAT (rates are excl. VAT) and accounting; our team can tell you which details we need for invoicing.

For terminology-intensive assignments we work with Trados, Phrase and memoQ, often with a client-specific glossary and translation memory. Experience with one of these CAT tools is an advantage on technical and financial projects, but not a hard requirement for every field. Where AI support fits, we use DeepL Pro or language models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google through a GDPR-aligned workflow; the human revision stays with you or a fellow specialist.

Your project coordinator discusses the lead time in advance and confirms a workable deadline in the agreement; turnaround is confirmed in the quote. A second specialist reviews the translation for content, terminology and style where the field, risk or volume requires it. You can always raise questions or feedback during an assignment through your dedicated point of contact.

Yes. For certified work we collaborate with translators and interpreters registered with recognised professional bodies such as NRPSI, CIOL and ITI, in line with UK practice for certified translation and Home Office requirements. Share your registration details and accreditation date when you apply. You are equally welcome for non-certified work backed by domain knowledge.
