What is terminology management?

Our native terminologists build termbases on top of your existing content — glossaries, translation memories, campaign assets — so you never start from scratch. Validation is performed per language by a native specialist. Output is delivered in TBX, Excel or directly integrated into Trados Studio, memoQ or Phrase. On request we provide ongoing maintenance: new terms added with each release, language pairs expanded and periodic clean-up cycles. Terminology management underpins every other multilingual workflow we run — from technical translation to multilingual SEO.

Language reach

Termbases in every language combination

From European core languages to CJK and Arabic — native terminologists per language and per domain. The most-requested languages and language pairs for terminology management are below.

Our process

How it works

  1. Terminology intake

We start from the assets you already have: existing glossaries, style guides, approved translations and translation memories. There is no work-from-scratch — we extract value from what you have already approved.

  2. Term extraction

From your source content, translation memories and reference samples we surface candidate terms that are not yet documented — with frequency counts and contextual examples for each one.

  3. Validation by a native terminologist

A native terminologist validates every term: linguistically correct, contextually appropriate and aligned with your brand and house style. Edge cases are sent back to you for confirmation before sign-off.

  4. Export into your tool

The termbase is delivered into your CAT tool of choice — Trados Studio, memoQ or Phrase — or as TBX, Excel or TMX for any other workflow. We integrate; we do not lock you in.

  5. Maintenance and expansion

Optional ongoing maintenance: new terms added with each content release, language pairs expanded, errors corrected and obsolete entries retired. Your termbase stays current as your portfolio evolves.

Infrastructure for consistency

Our terminologists lay the foundation that every follow-up translation builds on.

A termbase is not a nice-to-have. It is the infrastructure that makes every subsequent translation faster, more consistent and more cost-effective. The earlier you invest in it, the larger the compounding effect on your multilingual content operation.

What is a termbase and what is it for?
A termbase is a structured database of approved specialist terms across multiple languages. It serves as the single source of truth for translators, editors and content writers, so the same concepts are always rendered the same way — regardless of who is translating or writing. That raises the quality and consistency of every multilingual touchpoint your organisation produces.
Which tools can you integrate the termbase into?
We integrate termbases into every common CAT tool: SDL Trados Studio, memoQ, Phrase (formerly Memsource), Wordfast and other translation management systems. We also deliver termbases as a TBX file (the standard XML interchange format) or as an Excel spreadsheet for manual use or your own custom workflow.
How long does it take to build a termbase?
Lead time depends on scope and language count. A starter termbase covering two languages and 200 to 500 terms is typically delivered within 2 to 4 weeks. Larger termbases spanning multiple languages and thousands of entries are scoped together — often with a phased delivery per language pair so the first markets can go live early.
Can you also improve our existing terminology lists?
Yes. We take your existing word lists, glossaries or Excel sheets as the starting point and structure, validate and enrich them into a professional termbase. You never start from zero — and we capitalise on every piece of value already embedded in your current terminology.
What is the difference between a termbase and a translation memory?
A translation memory (TM) stores complete sentences and segments that can be reused across new translations. A termbase (TB) holds approved terminology at the word level — individual terms, their target-language equivalents and contextual usage notes. The two complement each other and are most powerful when deployed together for maximum quality and efficiency.
How does your pricing model for terminology management work?
We quote per project, based on: number of source terms, number of languages, validation depth (light, medium or thorough) and the level of CAT-tool integration required. For ongoing maintenance we offer monthly or per-release rates. All rates are confirmed in writing in advance — no surprises mid-project.
Can you also help with Trados translation-memory migrations?
Yes. When you have a legacy Trados translation memory with inconsistent terminology or outdated entries, we normalise, validate and rebuild it into a clean termbase. This is particularly valuable when taking over from an external language service provider or migrating to a new CAT tool.
