How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into English. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist English translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced English translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the English translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Decision helper

Certified or standard? How to choose the right English translation

  • Choose certified

When an authority requires an official, certified translation: the Home Office, courts, notaries, registrars or a foreign government. Escalated to notarisation or FCDO apostille where needed.

  • Choose standard

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

Not sure? Send your document and we will advise which form the receiving authority expects.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in English

Many teams speak good English and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical English texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Mixed en-GB and en-US conventions

    Voorbeeld:

British spelling with American legal terminology in one document — it reads as untidy to the intended audience and undermines trust in the text.

    Onze aanpak:

We confirm up front which variant and register suit your target country and reader, then hold to it across the document.

  • False legal equivalence

    Voorbeeld:

A Dutch "bestuurder" is not automatically a "director" or "officer" in a US contract, and a "claimant" in England is a "plaintiff" in the US — the role definition shifts with the legal system.

    Onze aanpak:

We match role and office titles to the legal system of your target country, working with your legal adviser where needed.

  • Source interference

    Voorbeeld:

A sentence translated word for word from the source language often reads as stilted or ambiguous in business English, even when each word is technically correct.

    Onze aanpak:

A native translator rewrites for idiomatic English that fits the register your reader expects.

  • Register that does not match the reader

    Voorbeeld:

Marketing copy that is too formal for a US consumer audience, or a contract translated in a conversational tone that a counterparty will not accept.

    Onze aanpak:

We set the register per project — from regulated legal precision to consumer-facing marketing voice — and confirm it in the quote.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar English wordt gesproken

English is not a single market. A contract for a US counterparty calls for different terminology than a transcript for a British university, and spelling that reads as standard in London reads as an error in New York. We match spelling, terminology and register to the country where your document will be read, and confirm that choice up front in the quote.

Which variant of English does Ecrivus deliver by default?
We deliver British English (en-GB) by default for UK and European business contexts. American English (en-US) and International English are available on request; we confirm the variant in the quote based on your target country and audience. Mixing British spelling with American legal terminology in one document is the most common reason a translation reads as out of place, so we hold to a single variant throughout.
Does the UK have sworn translators, and how do you certify an English translation?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Which professional bodies do you work with for English translation?
We work with native specialist translators and reference the recognised UK professional bodies — the ITI (Institute of Translation and Interpreting), the CIOL (Chartered Institute of Linguists) and, for interpreting, the NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters). These are bodies of reference for the profession; we name them so you can see the standard the work is held to.
What document types are most commonly translated into or from English?
Common document types include contracts and SPAs, annual reports, technical manuals, personal documents (birth certificates, diplomas and transcripts, Companies House extracts), notarial deeds and commercial correspondence. UK-specific cases we handle often are Home Office and UKVI immigration documents, university admissions assessed by UK ENIC, HMCTS court documents and NHS referrals. We confirm the approach and any certification per document in the quote.
How quickly will I receive a quote, and what about the lead time?
On working days you receive a quote within 1 hour. The lead time for the translation itself depends on document type, volume, language pair and any required certification, and is confirmed in the quote. For tight deadlines we confirm a workable rush schedule up front rather than promising a fixed turnaround.
How does Ecrivus verify the quality of an English translation?
We combine native specialist translators with a structured QA layer: a terminology list, a style guide and a second review where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. CAT tools (Trados, memoQ, Phrase TMS) keep terminology consistent across volume and repeated content, and a translation memory keeps follow-up work aligned and lowers the cost over time.
What if I need a legal document translated into English?
For legal English translation — contracts, judgments, articles of association, notarial deeds — we pair you with a translator who has a legal background and match terminology to common-law or civil-law conventions as the case requires. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification, the closing statement of accuracy and US-versus-UK terminology. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
Why choose an English translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
An English translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the specialist who fits your document and sector, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
