How we work

Our process in 4 steps

  1. No-obligation quote

Send us the document you want translated into Danish. You receive a competitive quote within 1 hour on working days. Short lines, one dedicated project manager who is there for you.

  2. Assigning a translator

One of our specialist Danish translators gets to work. For certified translations, a professional translator who issues a certified statement of accuracy; for business, technical, legal or medical texts, a specialist from that field.

  3. Translation, QA and revision

Once the experienced Danish translator has completed the text, a second specialist carries out a thorough quality check and revision.

  4. Delivery

You receive the Danish translation digitally by email, in the same layout as the original. Certified translations are also sent by registered post where a hard copy is required.

Certified or standard? How to choose the right Danish translation

  • Choose certified

When an authority requires an official, certified translation: the Home Office, courts, notaries, registrars or a foreign government. Escalated to notarisation or FCDO apostille where needed.

  • Choose standard

For business publication, websites, marketing and internal documentation. Faster and without certification, with the same specialist translator.

Not sure? Send your document and we will advise which form the receiving authority expects.

What non-native translators and machine translation miss in Danish

Many teams speak good Danish and AI tools translate in seconds. Yet in business, legal and medical Danish texts, non-native translators and machine translation make the kind of mistakes that cost you credibility or legal validity. A few examples we prevent:

  • Danish confused with Norwegian or Swedish

    Voorbeeld:

The three Scandinavian languages look alike in writing, but vocabulary and idiom differ. A Norwegian term in a Danish text stands out at once to a Danish reader.

    Onze aanpak:

We translate Danish into Danish with a native Danish translator, never an automated Scandinavian conversion.

  • Faroese and Greenlandic treated as Danish dialects

    Voorbeeld:

Faroese (fo) and Greenlandic (kl) are sometimes taken for varieties of Danish, but they are separate languages with their own grammar.

    Onze aanpak:

For Faroese or Greenlandic we coordinate a separate specialist rather than assigning a Danish translator.

  • The characters æ, ø and å lost in conversion

    Voorbeeld:

On export, OCR or a wrong character encoding, the letters æ, ø and å can drop out or change, distorting the meaning of Danish words.

    Onze aanpak:

We deliver in an encoding that preserves the Danish characters and check for corrupted glyphs at the revision stage.

  • Compounds split where they should not be

    Voorbeeld:

Danish, like Dutch, writes many terms as single compounds. A space in the wrong place — in a shipping or pharma term, for instance — changes the meaning.

    Onze aanpak:

Our translator follows the Danish rules for compounding and checks specialist terms against a glossary for each project.

Wereldwijde dekking

Waar Danish wordt gesproken

Danish belongs to a Scandinavian dialect continuum with Norwegian and Swedish, and treating the three as interchangeable produces a text that a Danish reader spots as foreign at once. A Danish document is translated into Danish, not into a Scandinavian average. We match terminology and register to the Danish market and treat Faroese and Greenlandic as the separate languages they are.

Which variety of Danish does Ecrivus deliver by default?
We deliver Standard Danish (da-DK), the Copenhagen-Sjælland norm regulated by Dansk Sprognævn. For Faroese (the separate language fo) or Greenlandic (kl) we coordinate separately, because these are languages in their own right and not Danish dialects. We confirm the variant in the quote.
What is the difference between Danish, Norwegian and Swedish?
The three Scandinavian languages form a dialect continuum with strong written mutual intelligibility, but they are officially three separate languages with their own vocabulary and orthography. We never substitute one for another automatically: a Danish document is translated into Danish, by a native Danish translator.
How do you certify a Danish translation for the Home Office or UK courts?
The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For Home Office and UKVI applications, family and HMCTS courts, civil registries and naturalisation, the authority typically requires a certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.
Does a Danish document need an apostille for use in the UK?
Denmark has been party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 2007. Danish documents such as birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and notarial deeds can be legalised by apostille, issued by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You can confirm the UK side of legalisation via [GOV.UK](https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised), and we set out the route for your specific document in the quote.
What document types are most commonly translated into or from Danish?
Common document types include shipping documentation (charter parties, bills of lading), pharma dossiers, wind-energy reports, annual reports for Danish listed companies, EU documents, commercial contracts and personal documents such as birth certificates, diplomas and transcripts. We confirm the approach and any certification per document in the quote.
What if I need a legal Danish document translated?
For legal Danish translation — contracts, judgments, divorce decrees, articles of association, notarial deeds — we pair you with a translator who has a legal background and provide a certified version where the court or authority requires it. Our legal-translation page goes deeper into certification and the closing statement of accuracy. See [legal translation](/en/services/legal-translation/).
How does Ecrivus verify the quality of a Danish translation?
We combine native Danish specialist translators with a structured QA layer: a terminology list, a style guide and a second review where the legal field, risk profile or volume requires it. CAT tools (Trados, memoQ, Phrase TMS) keep terminology consistent across volume and repeated content, including the handling of Danish compounds and the characters æ, ø and å, while a translation memory keeps follow-up work aligned and lowers the cost over time.
Why choose a Danish translation agency instead of finding a freelance translator yourself?
A Danish translation agency takes the coordination off your hands. We select the native specialist who fits your document and sector, arrange certification, notarisation or legalisation where an authority requires it, and have the work checked by a second reviewer. You keep one point of contact for variant, terminology, scheduling and delivery, all under a single quote. A skilled freelance translator does excellent work too; the difference an agency adds is bringing those moving parts together so you are not managing them separately.
