Norwegian translator

We deliver Bokmål (`nb`) by default — the most-used form, written by roughly 85% of Norwegians and used by the media, government and business. Nynorsk (`nn`) is equally official and required for some Western-Norway municipalities and specific government documents; we deliver Nynorsk on request. If you are unsure, we ask which form your destination authority expects and confirm that choice in the quote.

The UK has no sworn-translator institute, so there is no "sworn translator" as a legal office here. For official acceptance we provide certified translation: a signed and dated statement of accuracy from the translator or the agency, with our contact details. Where a body asks for more, this can be escalated to notarisation by a solicitor or notary public, or to an apostille or legalisation through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). For the Norwegian end, Norway also operates a state-authorised translator scheme (statsautorisert translatør); we confirm in the quote which level your receiving authority requires.

The three Scandinavian languages form a dialect continuum with strong written mutual intelligibility. Bokmål Norwegian is closer to Danish in writing because of their shared historical development, while Nynorsk goes back to rural Norwegian dialects. Officially these are three distinct languages: we never substitute them automatically and we work with native Norwegian translators who check for Danish or Swedish interference at review.

Norway has been a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (1961) since 1983. Norwegian documents such as birth and marriage certificates, diplomas and notarial papers can be legalised with an apostille issued by the statsforvalter (the county governor) or a notary, after which we provide the certified translation. Common document types include offshore and HSE documentation, shipping and charter papers, annual accounts for Norwegian listed companies, commercial contracts and personal documents (birth certificates, diplomas and transcripts, corporate extracts).
