  1. Booking with subject-matter context

    You request a VRI interpreter for an NHS appointment, Crown Court hearing, Home Office interview or business meeting. We capture the language pair, sector context (clinical / legal / safeguarding / business) and any DBS-check or NRPSI requirements.

  2. Interpreter match by language and sector

    We match an interpreter on language pair, sector experience, DBS-check status and (for legal-VRI) NRPSI register reference. Safeguarding-trained interpreters are deployed for child-protection and mental-health contexts.

  3. Platform setup

    A secure video link is issued — typically Zoom Healthcare, Microsoft Teams or Cisco Webex with vendor end-to-end encryption. If your organisation has a clinical-grade or legal-grade VRI portal, we connect via that.

  4. Pre-call briefing where complex

    For clinically or legally sensitive sessions we offer a short pre-call briefing — case context, terminology, who-speaks-when. Family, friends and children should never interpret in clinical settings.

  5. Live VRI session

    The interpreter joins the call from a quiet, professional environment. Consecutive interpreting (taking turns) by default; for larger meetings we offer Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) on a dedicated platform.

  6. Post-session and confidentiality

    After the session we close out under our standard confidentiality protocols — NDA on every project, no recording without explicit consent. For legal use, optional verified transcription is available on request.

Common languages (Mandarin, Polish, Romanian, Arabic, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Spanish, French, Tigrinya) are typically available same-day. Rare language pairs — drawn from our 10,000+ linguists in our network — may require scheduling; we confirm availability and dispatch time in writing as part of the quote. We do not publish blanket dispatch SLAs.
Do you offer British Sign Language (BSL)?
No — Ecrivus provides spoken-language VRI only. For British Sign Language we refer you to specialist BSL providers such as SignSolutions InterpretersLive, SignVideo or Signalise Co-op. BSL is a separate language-service category requiring different qualifications and Deaf-led provision. Conflating BSL VRI with spoken-language VRI is a common procurement error; we are explicit about scope so you reach the right specialist. For mixed-need bookings (for example a meeting requiring both Mandarin and BSL) we coordinate alongside a BSL provider.
VRI for Crown Court or police interview — when is on-site interpreting better?
VRI works well for shorter hearings, video-link applications and immigration interviews; on-site interpreting is usually preferred for jury trials, vulnerable-witness testimony and settings needing full body-language reading. We work with HMCTS-aligned interpreters drawn from the NRPSI register where applicable, and align to MoJ interpretation guidance. For Crown Court trials and Magistrates' contested hearings we typically recommend on-site; for first appearances, sentencing video-link, tribunal hearings and police-interview link-up VRI is appropriate. NDA on every project is our default position.
